thehill.com FBI’s smoking gun: Redactions protected political embarrassment, not ‘national security’ By John Solomon, opinion contributor
To declassify or not to declassify? That is the question, when it comes to the FBI's original evidence in the Russia collusion case.
The Department of Justice (DOJ) and the FBI have tried to thwart President Trump on releasing the evidence, suggesting it will harm national security, make allies less willing to cooperate, or even leave him vulnerable to accusations that he is trying to obstruct the end of the Russia probe.
Before you judge the DOJ's and FBI's arguments - which are similar to those offered to stop the release of information in other major episodes of American history, from the Bay of Pigs to 9/11 - consider Footnote 43 on Page 57 of Chapter 3 of the House Intelligence Committee's report earlier this year on Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.
Until this past week, the footnote really had garnered no public intrigue, in part because the U.S. intelligence community blacked out the vast majority of its verbiage in the name of national security before the report was made public.
From the heavy redactions, all one could tell is that FBI general counsel James Baker met with an unnamed person who provided some information in September 2016 about Russia, email hacking and a possible link to the Trump campaign.
Not a reporter or policymaker would have batted an eyelash over such a revelation.
Then, last Wednesday, I broke the story that Baker admitted to Congress in an unclassified setting - repeat, in an unclassified setting - that he had met with a top lawyer at the firm representing the Democratic National Committee (DNC) and received allegations from that lawyer about Russia, Trump and possible hacking.
It was the same DNC, along with Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign, that funded the unverified, salacious dossier by a British intel operative, Christopher Steele, that became a central piece of evidence used to justify the FBI surveillance of the Trump campaign in the final days of the election.
And it was the same law firm that made the payments for the dossier research so those could be disguised in campaign spending reports to avoid the disclosure of the actual beneficiaries of the research, which were Clinton and the DNC.
And it was, in turns out, the same meeting that was so heavily censored by the intel agencies from Footnote 43 in the House report - treated, in other words, as some big national security secret.
What makes this so extraordinary is that the FBI and the DOJ would have Americans believe that a contact with a lawyer for a political party during the middle of the election is somehow a matter of national security that should be hidden from the public.
Well, that argument was proven to be a lie by the very way the interview with Baker played out last Wednesday on Capitol Hill. Baker was not interviewed in a "SCIF" - a "sensitive compartmented information facility" routinely used to discuss super-secret, highly sensitive information. There was no claim of classification over any information he provided Congress that day.
So we can now say with some authority that the earlier redaction in Footnote 43 was done in the name of a national security concern that did not exist.
Which raises the question of what the real reason was that it was hidden from public view. I think the answer can be found in an earlier set of documents that DOJ and FBI fought hard to keep secret - the text messages of those FBI love-birds Peter Strzok and Lisa Page. What we learned from their messages was that the investigation was a whole lot more about politics and and a whole lot less about verified intelligence.
There is now a concrete storyline backed by irrefutable evidence: The FBI allowed itself to take political opposition research created by one party to defeat another in an election, treated it like actionable intelligence, presented it to the court as substantiated, and then used it to justify spying on an adviser for the campaign of that party's duly chosen nominee for president in the final days of a presidential election.
And when, nine months later, the FBI could not prove the allegation of collusion between Trump and Russia, unverified evidence was leaked to the media to try to sustain public support for a continued investigation.
That means the redaction of Footnote 43 had more to do with political embarrassment than with national security. And that should concern us all.
The Founding Fathers intended government to be open and transparent except when national security was at risk. They never intended national security to be used to hide old-fashioned politics.
So, Mr. President, when you weigh those DOJ/FBI arguments against declassification, please don't forget the ruse of the redaction that was Footnote 43.

Defamation is the destruction or attempted destruction of the reputation, status, character or standing in the community of a person or group of persons by unfair, wrongful, or malicious speech or publication. For the purposes of this essay, the central element is defamation in retaliation for the real or imagined attitudes, opinions or beliefs of the victim, with the intention of silencing or neutralizing his or her influence, and/or making an example of them so as to discourage similar independence and "insensitivity" or non-observance of taboos. It is different in nature and degree from simple criticism or disagreement in that it is aggressive, organized and skillfully applied, often by an organization or representative of a special interest group, and in that it consists of several characteristic elements. Ritual Defamation is not ritualistic because it follows any prescribed religious or mystical doctrine, nor is it embraced in any particular document or scripture. Rather, it is ritualistic because it follows a predictable, stereotyped pattern which embraces a number of elements, as in a ritual.
The elements of a Ritual Defamation are these:
In a ritual defamation the victim must have violated a particular taboo in some way, usually by expressing or identifying with a forbidden attitude, opinion or belief. It is not necessary that he "do" anything about it or undertake any particular course of action, only that he engage in some form of communication or expression.
The method of attack in a ritual defamation is to assail the character of the victim, and never to offer more than a perfunctory challenge to the particular attitudes, opinions or beliefs expressed or implied. Character assassination is its primary tool.
An important rule in ritual defamation is to avoid engaging in any kind of debate over the truthfulness or reasonableness of what has been expressed, only condemn it. To debate opens the issue up for examination and discussion of its merits, and to consider the evidence that may support it, which is just what the ritual defamer is trying to avoid. The primary goal of a ritual defamation is censorship and repression.
The victim is often somebody in the public eye - someone who is vulnerable to public opinion - although perhaps in a very modest way. It could be a schoolteacher, writer, businessman, minor official, or merely an outspoken citizen. Visibility enhances vulnerability to ritual defamation.
An attempt, often successful, is made to involve others in the defamation. In the case of a public official, other public officials will be urged to denounce the offender. In the case of a student, other students will be called upon, and so on.
In order for a ritual defamation to be effective, the victim must be dehumanized to the extent that he becomes identical with the offending attitude, opinion or belief, and in a manner which distorts it to the point where it appears at its most extreme. For example, a victim who is defamed as a "subversive" will be identified with the worst images of subversion, such as espionage, terrorism or treason. A victim defamed as a "pervert" will be identified with the worst images of perversion, including child molestation and rape. A victim defamed as a "racist" or "anti-Semitic" will be identified with the worst images of racism or anti-Semitism, such as lynchings or gas chambers.
Also to be successful, a ritual defamation must bring pressure and humiliation on the victim from every quarter, including family and friends. If the victim has school children, they may be taunted and ridiculed as a consequence of adverse publicity. If they are employed, they may be fired from their job. If the victim belongs to clubs or associations, other members may be urged to expel them.
Any explanation the victim may offer, including the claim of being misunderstood, is considered irrelevant. To claim truth as a defense for a politically incorrect value, opinion or belief is interpreted as defiance and only compounds the problem. Ritual defamation is often not necessarily an issue of being wrong or incorrect but rather of "insensitivity" and failing to observe social taboos.
An interesting aspect of ritual defamation as a practice is its universality. It is not specific to any value, opinion or belief or to any group or subculture. It may be used for or against any political, ethnic, national or religious group. It may, for example, by anti-Semites against Jews, or by Jews against anti-Semites; by rightists against leftists or by leftists against rightists, and so on. The power of ritual defamation lies entirely in its capacity to intimidate and terrorize. It embraces some elements of primitive superstitious belief, as in a "curse" or "hex." It plays into the subconscious fear most people have of being abandoned or rejected by the tribe or by society and being cut off from social and psychological support systems. The weakness of ritual defamation lies in its tendency toward overkill and in its obvious maliciousness. Occasionally a ritual defamation will fail because of poor planning and failure to correctly judge the vulnerability of the victim or because its viciousness inadvertently generates sympathy. It’s important to recognize and identify the patterns of a ritual defamation. Like all propaganda and disinformation campaigns it is accomplished primarily through the manipulation of words and symbols. It is not used to persuade, but to punish. Although it may have cognitive elements, its thrust is primarily emotional. Ritual Defamation is used to hurt, to intimidate, to destroy, and to persecute, and to avoid the dialogue, debate and discussion upon which a free society depends. On those grounds it must be opposed no matter who tries to justify its use.

mention two things that lay outside the scope of this analysis so
far, outside the analysis given by Q and the Anons, Sha nah nah nah,
Q and the Anons – can't you just hear it. Anyway, what you will
never hear mentioned by Q is the body of law that stands outside BOTH
the law of Armed Conflict and Constitutional law, that Trump's both,
Dr Frog alluded to it, mentioning “the Patriot Act, the U.S.A.
Freedom Act” which should be called the U.S.A. Free DOOM act,
because it is part of this other over-arching body of Law, that
trumps (excuse the pun) both the Constitutional Civil and Criminal
Law, and the Law of Armed Conflict. What we saw this little bit of
kabuki theatre accomplish was to set out in the public understanding
the Constitutional Right of the President, which in fact is the
Constitutional Right and Responsibility of us all, and that is to
protect Constitutional Governance from enemies foreign and domestic.
Every person sworn in as a naturalized citizen swears this
oath, to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.
The Judeo attack on the meaning of American Citizenship, creating
dual citizens is antithetical to this oath, and as far as I am
concerned, every so-called citizen of the United States, that holds
dual citizenship, is also a citizen of the United Kingdom, or is also
a citizen of Israel, or any other country, they are proved liars,
having perjured themselves in the process of taking the oath.

foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty of whom or which I
have heretofore been a subject or citizen; that I will support and
defend the Constitution and laws of the United States of America

Try to reconcile that oath with

exposing, the fact that the Media is Judeo-Cabal owned, and operated
by the Shadow Government, and has become as Pat Caldwell accurately
described the week after Benghazi, “An Enemy of the American
People.” It is also an enemy of the Constitution and
Constitutional Governance. When Q is talking about the situation
going much deeper than he is willing or allowed to explain, he cannot
mention the fact that RULE of LAW has been voided and that we are in
a position of battling from centers of RAW MILITARY/POLICE and
Political POWER.
It has become not actually a “Civil War”
in the classic definition of that word, but as Trump stated
Wednesday, August the 29th, where he said, “What we
have done is a revolution, some people are calling it a
counter-revolution.” It is indeed that, it is the
counter-revolution to restore the Republic. And Trump has been
breathing live into the dead processes of the corpse of our former
Republic, and one way he is doing this, is through the Body of Law,
called the Law of Armed Conflict, well established law, going all the
way back to our Revolution, our armed conflict against King George of
England, and in that War a very similar Oath was required of all
Continential (that is American) Soldiers. Here is how that oath
went:
I James Glentworth, Lieut, of 6th Pennya. Reg. do
acknowledge
the
UNITED STATES of AMERICA to be Free, Independent and Sovereign
States, and declare that the people thereof owe no allegiance or
obedience to George the Third, King of Great Britain; and I renounce,
refuse and abjure any allegiance or obedience to him ; and I do Swear
that I will, to the utmost of my power, support, maintain and defend
the said United States against the said King George the Third, his
heirs and successors, and his or their abettors, assistants and
adherents, and will serve the said United States in the office of
Lieutenant which I now hold, with fidelity, according to the best of
my skill and understanding.

Remember this oath was before our Nation WAS a
Republic, and obviously before the American Constitution was written.
But immediately upon the codifying of the goals of the U.S.
Declaration of Independence, into the body of the American
Constitution the Oath was changed to basically what it is today, that
is administered to armed services members, holders of public office
from dog-catcher to President.
The entire Body of Stalin-esk
totalitarian, Statist laws, that created a dictatorship, where
technically Obama held the same power as Stalin at his heyday, at his
most powerful. The right to name a person an enemy of the State, a
threat to national security, void their constitutional rights, exile
them, imprison them or execute them, without charges or trial.
Trump holds this same power, yet, the power only works, when
the Luciferian State that created that power, is behind the dictator.
And as we have seen clearly, the Shadow Government different than the
Deep State, AND the Deep State, at least part of it, have been
opposed to Trump and have been acting in rebellion to Rule of Law,
and TRUMP before and since he took office.
The Constitution
has been reduced to mere paper, and to a great extent so has the body
of Law Called, The National Emergencies Act. And that is a good thing
really, IF, IF we return to fidelity to our Republic and
Constitutional Governance, as soon as possible.
