THIS is the DAY!

A friend, a strong man, a Christian, recently faced a sudden health challenge that almost took him out. They barely saved his life before he "bled-out." He shared that that brush with death had changed the way he looked at everything.

Facing death, really coming to understand our mortality, the ever presence of our mortality is a wonderful blessing if we are connected to LIFE that is bigger than our biology.

I just shared this exchange with him privately and thought, 'you know, other people could be strengthened by these words.'

My buddy X wrote: "It was scary."

I wrote: One of the Holy Fathers said, "When one lives with one's death ever before him, he gains the power to become a saint." Wakeup Call.

X wrote: It definitely changes your perspective on everything!

I wrote: I hope everything is infinitely more beautiful, the people you love more precious, the day of value never to be experienced without joy, no matter the challenge in it. And humility to say even of one's own breath, "The Lord Gives and the Lord Takes Away, Blessed Be the Name of The Lord"!

I will add, The secret to enjoying life, no matter how long or how short, was summed up in the words of the psalmists, "This is the day that The LORD hath made, we will rejoice and be glad in it." And a little rephrasing of that great wisdom by the poet, Helen Steiner Rice, (my mother used to hammer in my head) "The joy of enjoying and meaning of living is found in the heart that is filled with Thanksgiving." I misquote her by one word, changing "fullness to Meaning". Without a thankful heart, life has no meaning. One of Rex Christi's obscene sophisms speaks of the meaninglessness of life without consciousness of God and a thankful heart, He said, ''If this is all there is, we are born, we eat, we fuck, we laugh, we cry, we die." That's all biology has to offer. It is little wonder that those without Faith, destroy their souls trying to feed their biology. The meaning is beyond biology, in our life that exists above and beyond our mere biology.

One day, or many, may my joy Bless the Lord, may my tears draw his Mercy. I love that the meaning of the highest form of Christian worship is Thanksgiving (eucharista - in the Greek) the Eucharist.
